Simple Ways to Cleanse Your Inner Terrain

Have you ever wondered… “should I do a cleanse?” …“There are so many to choose from!” …“ Which cleanse is best for me?”  Yes, having a healthy balanced body can provide you with clearer skin, whiter eyes and more energy. However, I have found that it does not have to be an all or nothing approach.

I’ve tried a few popular cleanses in the past because I thought I should be able to personally answer my clients questions.  I have to admit I never really cared for the ones that require you to stop eating food and protein for days and weeks. Most of us do not have the luxury of resting and going for long walks and removing ourselves from stress while we follow an intensive cleanse. I have found that our body really is a wonderful self-cleansing machine if we give it a little help.

Most Americans do not eat the recommended daily fruits and vegetables and get the minimum of 19-38 grams of fiber daily (amount depends on age and sex).  Did you know that getting a combination of soluble and insoluble fiber in the correct amount is one of the easiest ways to help cleanse your body?  I do my best to eat vegetables or fruit or a green drink at every meal (including breakfast), yet when I calculate my daily fiber, I still run short.

Fiber does SO much more make sure we are regular. Fiber can provide real benefits from head to toe.  It helps:

  • Large Intestine and Digestive Support – Research shows a high fiber diet helps reduce the likelihood of hernias, hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, and other disease of the bowl.
  • Heart Protector – Fiber helps lower cholesterol levels and reduces heart disease.
  • Powerful Immune Booster – Fiber provides food for the “friendly bacteria” in your large intestine that fight the growth of harmful bacteria and contribute to immune support throughout the entire body. In addition, it also absorbs and helps sweep away toxins, fat, and cholesterol so they are not recirculated into the blood.
  • Weight Control – By helping us feel fuller for longer, fiber helps stop overeating – helping prevent weight gain and allowing people to more easily shed excess fat.
  • Blood Sugar Regulation – Fiber naturally reduces swings in blood sugar levels by slowing the release of sugars into the bloodstream.
  • Natural Fatigue Fighter – Research has shown that boosting fiber intake improves mood and increases feelings of well-being while improving energy levels and reducing feelings of fatigue.
  • Natural Cancer Fighter – Numerous studies suggest that eating healthy low-fat diet that is high in fiber can reduce the risk of developing some forms of cancer.

OK…the thought of toxins recirculating back into my blood stream and to my liver instead of being eliminated is enough for me to add a high-quality fiber supplement that can bridge the gap in my diet. Another great way to help your body work at its best and naturally eliminate the unwanted from our body is with a green drink or chlorophyll.  When deciding on a chlorophyll brand, make sure that it comes from a clean source.  Guess this isn’t too different than paying attention to where your food comes from…pesticide free if you eat the skin…right?!  This is also another way to make sure you are drinking half your body weight in ounces of water or non-caffeinated/ non-carbonated beverages…body needs the fluids to flush it all out!  A green drink and/or chlorophyll are considered anti-inflammatory, and have antioxidants and even assist in the chelation of heavy metals.

A simple green drink that I mix up as a mid-morning or mid- afternoon pick me up is:

16 ozs of pure water in my Vitamix.
Chop and add 1 granny smith apple.
Chop up about ½ inch segment of fresh ginger (slice off outer skin, add or decrease amount according to preference), add to Vitamix.
Pull off the upper portions of a ½ bunch of cilantro and add to Vitamix.
Turn on low and add 1 cup of frozen blueberries.

Drink & enjoy!

I usually have a spoon or straw in my glass to stir…it may settle unless you gulp it down…not suggested to gulp, may create the “sloshy tummy” feeling.

I hope that this has given you a few ideas of simple ways to help your body cleanse itself of toxins and waste that we eat, absorb through our skin and breathe in daily. Also remember A GOOD SWEAT helps cleanse your body a bit too!
