Weight Loss Challenge: Clean Your Fridge!

The more unhealthy the food you have in your fridge, the harder it is to make healthy decisions when you’re hungry.  This week your challenge is to go through your fridge and pantry and find one unhealthy item to throw away daily.  If you can’t bear to throw it away, give it away to someone as a gift — neighbors and co-workers love junk food!

After you’ve chosen something to throw away, spend some time thinking about what healthy item you can replace it with. The goal is to have as few unhealthy items in the house as possible so that it’s less of a challenge to eat well.

Remember, to be successful think SUBSTITUTION, not deprivation. If your go-to is chips because of the salty crunch, substitute them with celery sticks and guacamole or hummus. This will satisfy the crunch and the salt (hopefully sea salt is used so you are getting a bit of potassium to balance out the sodium).

If you find yourself in a state of confusion because you do not have any other unhealthy items in your fridge or pantry…. DO A HAPPY DANCE! Instead, I encourage you to introduce a new veggie daily.
